What it is:
This herb is thetwig and leaf of sarcandrae glabra(family Chloran-thaceae) produced mainly in Sichuan, Hunan, Guangxi and Guangdong provinces.It is harvested in summer, used fresh or dried.

Property:
Pungent in flavour, neutral in property.

Effects:
Clearingaway heat, detoxica-ting, expelling wind,eliminating dampnessand promoting blood circulation to relieve pain.

Used for:
1. Tumours of esophagus, stomach, colon, rectum, pan-creas and liver, andacute leukemia.
(1)For accumulation ofdepressed fire, phlegm and blood stasis in esophagus cancer, it is usuallyused together with oldenlandia, tricho-santhes fruit,red sage root, Chinese salvia, etc.
(2) For stagnation of blood stasis and toxin in stomach cancer, it is used in conjunctionwith chonglou, green-brier, Chinese acti-midia root, centipedeand others.
(3) For accumulation of noxious heat in pancreas carcinoma, it is used together with Oriental Worm-wood, capejasmine fruit, curcuma root,gentian root, etc. It promotes cellularand humoral immunityand directly inhibitsoxygen consumption of tumour cell so asto be an antitumoragent.

2. Pneumonia, acute appendicitis, acute gastro-enteritis, bacilla-rydysentery, rheu-matic arthritis,traumatic injury,etc.

Dosage and admi-nistration: 10-60g, decocted in water for an oral dose. Tablet and injection can be made. The herb is also smashedfor external application.
