What it is:
This herf is theripe fruit of Quis-qualis indica L. (family Combretaceae)
which is yielded chiefly in Sichuan,Guangdong, Guangxiand Yunnan provinces.It
is collected inautumn and dried insunlight. The husked quisqualis fruit
is used unprepared or stir-baked till itsmells sweet.
Property:
Sweet in flavour, warm in property, acting on the spleen and stomach channels.
Effects:
Poisoning and expelling parasites in the intestines and removingstagnation
of food.

Used for:
1. To treat ascariasis and entero-biasis, it can be used alone, stir-baked
till it smells sweet and swallowed afterchewing, or used together with
china-berry bark and areca seed.
2. For the treat-ment of infantile indigestion with food retention manifested
as emaciation, dis-tended abdomen and sallow complexion, it is often usedwith
dangshen, whiteatractylodes, chicken's gizzardmembrane and arecaseed.
Dosage andadministration:6-10g, decocted in water for an oral dose. The
dosage of the stir-baked herb for swallowing after chewing is: adult,
10-20 grains of the seed; children, 1-1.5grains per day foreach year of
age with a total not exceeding 20 grains.
Precautions:
If it is taken in large amounts or taken with tea, it may give rise to
reactions likehiccup, dizzinessand vomiting, whichwill disappear spontaneously
afterquitting the herb. It necessary, proper herbs can be dispensed according
to the different symptoms of reactions. Strongtea should be avoided when
this herb is used.
