What it is:
This herb is the root of Pulsatilla chinensis ( Bge. ) Regel (family Ran-
unculaceae), yielded mainly in Inner Mongolia and Liao- ning, collected
in spring and autumn, dried in sunlight, sliced, and used unprepared.
Property:
Bitter in flavour, cold in property, acting on the large intestine channel.
Effects:
Clearing away heat, detoxicating, removng heat from the blood and arresting
dysentery.

Used for:
This herb is used for the treatment of diarrhea and dysentery with bloody
stool, abdominal pain and tenesmus. This herb is very effective for both
bacterial and amebic dysentery and is often used with phellodendron bark,
coptis rhizome and ash bark, known as Pulsatilla Decoction (Baitouweng
Tang). In addition, this herb can be used with flavescent sophora to prepare
a lotion for the treatment of trichomoniasis vaginalis.
Dosage and administration: 6- 15g, decocted in water for an oral dose.
Appropriate dosage for external use.
