Light Wheat
(Fructus Tritici Levis)


 

What it is:
This herb is the unripe caryopsis of Triticum aestivum L. (family Graminae) which is produced in all parts of China. When washing wheat, collect the floating grains and dry them in the sun. The dried wheat is used unprepared or stir-baked.

Property:
Sweet in flavour, cold in property, acting on the heart channel.

Effects:
Replenishing qi, clearing away heat, and arresting perspiration.

Used for:
1. For treating spontaneous sweating and night sweat, it is baked to brown, ground to powder and taken frequently, or it is used together with other herbs. To treat spontaneous sweating due to exterior deficiency, it can be used together with astragalus root and schisandra fruit;to stop night sweat due to yin deficiency, it is prescribed with white peony root and dogwood fruit.

2. In the treatment of bone-heat syndrome with hectic fever and consumptive fever, it is used with dried rehmannia root, ophiopogon root, wolfberry bark, etc.

Dosage and administration: 15-30g, decocted in water for an oral dose, or stir- baked to brown and ground to powder for oral administration. 3-6g each time.

Precautions:
This herb should not be used in cases of pathogenic factors in the superficies.
