What it is:
This herb is the anthodium of Chrysan- themum morifolium Ramat
(family Compositae) and is divided into two types: white and yellow. The
herb is chiefly produced in the provinces of Zhejiang, Anhui, Henan and
Sichuan, collected when the flower is in full blossom, and dried in the
shade for use.
Property:
S weet and bitter in flavour, slightly cold in property, acting on the
liver and lung channels.
Effects:
Expelling wind,clearing away heat, calming the liver and improving acuity
of vision.

Used for:
1. Affection by exopathogenic wind- heat and epidemic febrile
diseases at the early stage with symptoms of fever, dizziness, headache,
etc. It is often used with mulberry leaf, peppermint and for- sythia fruit,as
in Decoction of Mulberry Leaf and Chrysan- themum (Sang Fu Yin).
2. Conjunctival congest in with swelling pain due to wind-heat in the
liver or due to the flaming-up of exces- sive liver-fire. It is often
used with mulberry leaf,cicada slough and prunella spike.
3. For the treat- ment of hyperactivity of the liver-yang marked by headache,
dizziness, felling of fullness in the head, it is often used together
with antelope's horn, uncaria stem and dried rehmannia root, as in Decoction
of antelope's horn and Uncaria Stem(Lingjiao Guoteng Tang). For blurred
vision due to deficiency of both the liver-yin and kidney-yin, it is often
used with prepared rehmannia root and wolfberry fruit, as in Rehman- nia
Bolus of Six herbs plus Rehmannia with Wolfberry and Chrysanthemum (Qi
Ju Dihuang Wan).
Dosage and admini- stration: 10-15g, decocted in water for an oral dose;
or prepared into the forms of bolus and powder. For expelling wind and
clearing away heat, yellow chrysanthemum flower is usually used, while
for calming the liver and improving eye- sight, the white one should be
used.
