Chinese Actinidia
(Fructus et Radix Actinidia Chinensis)


 

What it is:
This herbis the root and fruit of Actinidia Chinensis (family Actinidiaceae) distributed in most part of China. The root is collected all the year round, washed clean and dried in sunlight orused fresh. The fruitis collected in August, Septemberor October when it is ripe, dried in sun-light or used fresh.

Property:
Sour and sweet in flavour, cold in property (fruit); sour and slightly sweet in flavour, cool in property, slightly poisono us (root); acting on the kidney and stomach channels.

 

Effects:
Regulating centreqi, promoting the production of body fluid to moisten dryness, clearing away heat, relieving restlessnessand treating strangu-ria (fruit); clearingaway heat, detoxicating, promoting blood circulation, subduing swelling, expelling wind, removing dampness and inducing diruesis(root and bark).

Used for:
1. The root is often used to treat tumour.
(1) For stomach carcinoma, it is often used with adina root, ampelopsis root, sun-plant, cogongrass rhizome and bracken.
(2) For mammary carcinoma, it is oftenused with ampelopsisroot, dysosma root and rawarisaema tuber.

2. For rheumaticarthritis, traumaticinjury, filariasis,hepatitis, dysentery,lymphatic tuberculo-sis, carbuncle, furuncle and edema, the root is often used. 3. For dysphoriawith smothery sensa-tion, indigestion, poor appetite, vomiting, jaundice, stranguria caused bythe passage of urinarystone, hemorrhoid, burns and scalds, the fruit is often used.

Dosage and admi-nistration: 15-60 g (the maximum dosage for tumour is 200g), decocted in water. The root can be smashed for externalapplication.
