What it is:
This herb is the rhizome of Arisaemaerubescens ( family Araceae)
produced in most parts of China. It is dug out in autumn and winter, removed
stem, root and bark, dried in sunlight or used fresh.
Property:
Flavour and channel tropism: bitter and pungent in flavour,
warm in property, acting on the lung, liver and gall bladder channels.
Effects:
Depriving dampness, eliminating phlegm, expelling wind to relieve spasm,
dispersing swelling lumps.

Used For:
1. Carcinomas of the digestive tract, brain, cervix, mouth cavity and
nervous system, and metastaticencephaloma or lymphatic metastasis.
(A)For accumulation of phlegm-dampness and blood stasis in carcinoma of
the digestive tract, it is used in conjunction with pinellia tuber, poria,
immature bitter orange, etc.
(B) For stagnation of phlegm-dampness shown in brain carcinoma or metastatic
encephaloma, it is used with kombu, Zhejiang fritillary bulb, pinellia
tuber, princes plume ladysthumb fruit, etc.
(C) For side-effects of the digestive tract caused by chemotherapy, it
is often used with tangerine peel, citron, poria, parched medicated leaven,
etc.
(D) For carcinomas of the esophagus andcardia, it is used with isatis
root, euphoria, artificial cow-bezoare, sal-ammoniac, Chinese clematis
root, etc. Water extraction from fresh arisaema tuber obviously inhibits
tumour in experiment
2. Hemi paralysis due to apoplexy and phlegm stagnation, epilepsy, convulsion,
tetanus, lymphatic tuberculosis, mumps,dizziness caused by wind-phlegm,
snake bite, etc.
Dosage and administration: 3- 9g, decocted in water for an oral dose,
or ground to make bolus and powder for external application.Tablet, injection
and suppository can also be made of the herb.
Precautions:
Large dosage is avoided in anti-tumor with fresh rhizome. Prepared rhizome
with pig's bile is commonly used
