1. Overview and Causes

Premenstrual tension syndrome includes a series of symptoms such as distending pain in the breast, headache and dizziness, restlessness and insomnia, distension in sternocostal region, edema, diarrhea, restless sleep and general malaise which appears before or during menstruation.

2. Symptoms

(a) Stagnation of the Liver-qi
Premenstrual distension and fullness in the breasts, thelalgia, dizziness, headache, distension pain in the abdomen or involving the chest and hypochondrium, restlessness, and tendency to anger, dark colored tongue with whit and thin fur, taut pulse.

(b) Deficiency of Qi and Blood in Heart and Spleen
Premenstrual palpitation, restless sleep, lack of vitality with asthenia, cold extremities, excessive thin clear leucorrhoea, pale tongue with white fur, deep and tready pulse.

(c) Yang insufficiency of Both the Spleen and Kidney
Premenstrual edema in the face and limbs, dizziness, bodily languor, and legs, drowsiness, loss of appetite, loose stool, abdominal distension, lassitude in the loins corpulent tongue with teeth marks on its margin, white and moist fur, deep and thready pulse.

bighead atractylodes rhizome, Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae 9g, poria, Poria 9g,
coix seed, Simen Coicis 15g,
cibot rhizome, Rhizoma Cibotii 9g,
morinda root, Radix Morindae Officinalis 9g,
alismatis rhizome, Rhizoma Alismatis 9g,
All the above drugs are to be decocted in water for oral adinistration.

1. Longan(Longyanrou) 250g, Red Date(Hongzao) 500g, Common Selfheal Fruit-spike(Xiakucao) 200g, Spine Date Seed(Suanzaoren) 100g, Honey(Fengmi) 1000g, Crystal Sugar(Bingtang) 250g, cook and extract it to cream, take it twice a day, each time 10-15g.
2. Dragon's Bones(Longgu) 10g, Oyster Shell(Muli) 15g, Rhizome(zhimu) 3g, Lotus Seed(lianzi) 30g, cook and drink the soup.
