Allergy
1. Overview
and Causes

Allergy
are usually caused by different antigens, such as pollen, dust,
fish and shrimp, fur, etc.. Usually bronchial asthma and urticaria
are more common.

2. Symptoms
1.Bronchial
asthma
1) Excess type:
Rapid breathing, wheezing in the throat, the patient has to sit
up (unable to lie flat) with the mouth open and the shoulder lifted,
yellow and sticky sputum, dysphoria and chest oppression, fever,
thirst, red tongue with yellow and greasy coating, taut and rapid
pulse.
2) Deficiency
type: Short and rapid breathing for along time, weak and low sound
of coughing, feeble voice, more severe wheezing on exertion, sweating
and cold limbs in severe cases, pale tongue with white coating,
thin and weak pulse.
2.Urticaria
1) Wind-pathogen attack: Abrupt onset, raised and white rashes
with red haloes around them, severe itching, accompanied with
aversion to wind, spontaneous perspiration, thin and white tongue
coating, floating and slow pulse.
2) Accumulation of heat in the stomach and intestines: Red and
burning rashes with severe itching, accompanied with abdominal
and epigastric pain, anorexia, constipation or diarrhea, yellow
and greasy tongue coating, slippery and rapid pulse.

3. TCM Effectiveness and Evaluation
|
TCM's treatment is remarkable effective on Allergy. It is reported
that the rate of healing is 60%-80%. According to my clinic experience,
the rate of healing can reach to 80%-90% and it has a less side
effect.

4. Common Syndromes and Treatments in TCM
This ailment, according to TCM, has
different syndromes. The treatment for these syndromes using herbal
medicine and acupuncture is shown below.

Syndrome (a)
Bronchial asthma
Insomnia, dream and being
easy to wake, palpitation, anorexia, fatigue and weakness, amnesia,
sallow complexion, pale tongue with thin whitish fur and feeble
pulse.
To treat by
Herbal medicine
Prescription/Formula:
1) For excess type, Baical Skullcap Root(Huangqin) 12g, Ephedra(Mahuang)
5g, White Mulberry Root-Bark(Sangbaipi) 12g, Bitter Apricot Seed(Xingren)
6g, Pinellia Tuber(Banxia) 8g, Common Coltsfoot Flower(Kuandonghua)
12g, Perilla Fruit(Zisuzi) 12g, Ginkgo(Yenxing) 10g, Liquorice Root(Gancao)
8g, Fresh Ginger(Shengjiang) 10g.
2) For deficiency type, Milkvetch Root(Huangqi) 20g, Largehead
Atractylodes Rhizome(Baizhu) 12g, Davaricate Saposhnikovia Root(Fangfeng)
10g, Cassia Twig(Guizhi) 10g, White Peony Root(Baishaoyao) 10g,
Coastal Glehnia Root(Beishashen) 10g, Fragrant Solomonseal Rhizome(Yuzhu)
10g. .
Dissolve them in hot water and drink daily for 20-30 days.

To treat by Acupuncture and
Moxibustion
Prescription/Formula: Shanzhong (Ren17), Kongzui(L6),
Yuji (L 10), and Feishu (B13). Supplementary points: For excess
type, Fenglong (S40), Tiantu (Ren22) and Dingchuan (Extra 14) are
added; for deficiency type, Gaohuangshu (B 34), Qihai (Ren6), Shenshu
(B23), Taixi (K3) and Zusanli (S 36).
Method: Use the filiform needles to puncture the points with
the reducing method for excess type. Moxibustion may be used according
to the requirement. Yuji (L10) points on both sides should be employed
alternatively. Puncture Yuji (L10) obliquely about 0.5 cun with
the needle tip towards the palm and retain the needle for 20-30
minutes after arrival of qi; puncture Kongzui (L 6) 0.3-0.5cun.,
make the needle sensation ascending to the same side of the chest,
and retain the needle for 30-60 minutes.

Syndrome (b)
Urticaria
Urticaria is
a common allergic disease, characterized mainly by bright red or
pale pruritic rashes of various sizes on the skin. In mild cases,
pruritus is the main symptom, the rashes occur sporadically on the
skin, rising one after another. In severe cases, the rashes may
spread all over the body. The disease pertains to the categories
of "hidden rash", and "wind wheal" in traditional chinese medicine.
To treat by Herbal
medicine
Prescription/Formula:
1) For wind-pathogen attack, Chinese Angelica(Dangqui) 10g, Rehmannia
Root(Shengdihuang) 10g, Davaricate Saposhnikovia Root(Fangfeng)
10g, Ciccada Skin(Chantui) 6g, (Zhimu) 10g, Flavescent Sophora Root(Kushen)
10g, Fineleaf Schizonepeta Herb(Jingjie) 10g, Atractylodes Rhizome(Cangzhu)
10g, Great Burdock Achene(Niubangzi) 10g.
2) For accumulation of heat in the stomach and intestines, Rehmannia
Root(Shengdihuang) 10g, Common Anemarrhena Rhizome(Zhimu) 10g, Tree
Peony Bark(Mudanpi) 10g, Baical Skullcap Root(Huangqin) 10g, Golden
Thread(Huanglian) 8g, Chinese Angelica(Danggui) 10g, Cape Jamine
Fruit(Zhizi) 10g, Red Peony Root(Chishaoyao) 10g, Davaricate Saposhnikovia
Root(Fangfeng) 10g, Liquorice Root(Gancao) 8g.
Dissolve
them in hot water and drink daily for 20-60 days.
To treat by Acupuncture and Moxibustion
Prescription/Formula:
Quchi (LI 11), Geshu (B 17), Xuehai (Sp 10) and Zusanli (S 36).
Supplementary points: For wind-pathogen attack, Fengchi (G 20) is
added; for accumulation of heat in the stomach and intestines, Shangjuxu
(S37).
Method: Use the filiform needles to puncture the points with the
reducing method. Retain the needles for 20 minutes.

5. Healing by Other Therapies
(a) Qigong and other therapies

Generally speaking,
Qigong is good for healing effect of this specific ailment, however
individual results may vary. It improves the flow of the qi and
the circulation of the blood, so you'll experience more energy,
but, you won't see/ feel any immediate effects, as with many exercises
and therapies, it takes a few weeks or even months of practice before
you'll see any significant improvements.

(b) Medicated diet
1. Green Gram Seed(Ludou) 200g. Decoct and drink the gruel.
2. Balsam Pear(Kugua). Slice and Stir-fry it then take it.
3. Ginkgo(Yenxing) 30g, Lily Bulb(Baihe) 30g, Lotus Leaf(Heye) 30g.
Decoct them and drink the soup. Once a week.
(c) Life style
1) Less fat food, no fish and sea food, no beef
and mutton, no spicy, no wine.
2) Avoid using chemical items.
3) Keep the living and working environment cleaning.

Psychological Adaptation to a Chronic and Severe Illness
One
encounters different health problems in the course of one's life.
Some problems are acute yet minor and often improve by themselves
or yield to simple self-management. Severe and acute conditions
