Hyperplasia of Prostate
1. Overview
and Causes

Hyperplasia
of prostate, also known as prostatic hyperplasia, is a very
common disease that occurs in old male patients. The disease in
considerate with the disturbance of sexual hormones. The main manifestations
are uroschesis and difficulty of urination.

2. Symptoms
a.
It occurs mostly in old men who are over 50.
b. Frequent micturition is the main symptom of early stage.
c. Difficulty in urination is getting worse time to time and there
is the interruption or dripping in urination. In severe cases, there
is acute uroschesis.
d. There is pseudo-uroschesis since the sphincter muscle of urethra
can not against too much pressure from the retention of the urine,
so the urine will dribble out continuously.
e. Complications:
-- High abdomen pressure come from the difficulty in urination,
so inguinal hernia, hemorrhoid, proctoptosis, varicose vein in the
lower limbs occur.
-- The damage of the kidney or renal failure until coma may happen
, manifested as poor appetite, fatigue,nausea, hypertension and
anemia.
f. The examinations:
-- The rectum examination can find that the prostate gland is large,
smooth, hardness with resilience and the central sulcus is shallow
or disappears.
-- Cystoscopy and cystography, ultrasound can find the enlargement
of the prostate gland and the blockage of the urethra.
-- The laboratory:
There are the pus cells or red blood cells. In the severe cases,
there is urea nitrogen and creatinine in the blood, which means
the damage of the kidney.

Damp-heat type
Main symptoms and signs:
There are the dribbling urination, frequent micturition, burning
feeling, scanty dark, yellowish urine, dry mouth, constipation and
fever,red tongue with yellow greasy fur,taut and rapid pulse.
To treat by
Herbal medicine
Therapeutic principle: clearing away pathogenic heat and
dampness, removing the blood stasis and activating the stuffy urethra.
Prescription/Formula:
Chinese pink herbs 10g, Pyrrosia leaf 10g, Windweed rhizome 10g,
Phellodendron bark 10g.

To treat by Acupuncture and
Moxibustion Therapeutic
principle: Acupuncture and moxibustion can help by regulating
the circulation of qi and blood by using points mainly from the Ren
and Du meridian points, as well as the urine bladder meridian and
the Spleen meridian point.
Prescription/Formula: Pi-Shu (UB20), Zusanli (St36),
Sanyinjiao (Sp6), Bai-Hui (Du20), Qi-Hai (Ren6), Ge-Shu (UB17).
Acupuncture 20-30 minutes or with Moxibustion at each point 10-15
minutes.

Syndrome (b)
Kidney-deficiency type
The urination
is blocked up or dribbling and hard- . pale, fatigue, aching pain
at the waist, pale tongue with thin wgitish fur, deep and thready
pulse.
To treat by Herbal
medicine
Therapeutic principle: Warming and reinforcing
the kidney-yang and promoting diuresis.
Prescription/Formula:
Chines yam 10g, Dogwood fruit 10g, Oriental water plantain rhizome
10g, Achyranthes root 10g.
Simple Prescription:
Six gout Di-Huang Wan one time a pill, twice a bag.
To treat by Acupuncture and Moxibustion
Prescription/Formula: Ren 3, Ren 4, Sp 6, Bl 39, Sp 9.
