Overview and Causes|
As we all may
know, life hasn't been a "piece of cake" for all of us.
Some stressful events may happen suddenly or unexpectedly.
Others might be more predictable and may continue for a numerous
amount of years. Sometimes stress is just a part of life, which
can be irritating. A stressful event can cause a variety of effects
on different types of people depending on how each person experiences
it. Some people are more resilient to stress than others. Some people
are more vulnerable individuals who find even minor problems unbearable.
The symptoms of stress usually resolve over a period of days to
weeks, in some cases they persist for a long time or evolve into
a more serious condition. Having an unpleasant reaction to a stressful
event is entirely “normal”. The essence of stress disorder is an
inappropriate or excessive emotional or behavioral response that
is maladaptive, which far exceeds what would be expected given the
severity of the stressful event, and makes a bad situation worse. |
2. Symptoms|
(a)
The emotional or behavioral symptoms developed in response to a
stressful event or to a chronically stressful situation.
(b) The stressor keeps reexperiencing the event in different ways, such as upsetting memories or nightmares; flashbacks that it is happening again; or having a severe reaction whenever he/she is exposed to anything that reminds him/her of it. (c) The patient avoid things that are associated with the traumatic event; can not remember the details of what happened; feels detached from everyday life; has trouble in sleeping and concentrating; has angry outbursts. (d) These symptoms persist and cause either severe distress or problems with school, work or other people. Return To Top |
3. TCM Effectiveness

Many cases of stress are successfully treated by the Traditional
Chinese Medicine (TCM) approach. Most of the cases show a lot of
improvement after two to three weeks of treatment. However, the
treatment should be longer for post-traumatic stress disorder. |
