Deficiency
of Heart and Spleen
Anorexia
may cause a deficiency of the heart
and the spleen, which in turn may cause a fast heartbeat, poor memory,
general lazziness, a pale comlexion and loose stools. The tongue
is usually pale, with a thin white coating, while the pulse is feeble
and thready.
To treat by Herbal medicine
Therapeutic principle: Herbal medicine helps reinforce the
heart and spleen, nourish blood and calm the mind.
Prescription/Formula: Modified Modified Guipi Tang. White
atractylodes (bauzhu) 30g, Poria (fuling) 30g, Astragalus (huangqi)
30g, Longan aril (longyanrou) 30g, Wild jujube seed (suanzaoren)30g,
Ginseng (renshen) 15g, Costus root (muxiang) 15g, Chinese angelica
(danggui) 3g, Polygala (yuanzhi) 3g, Licorice (gancao) 8g.

To treat by Acupuncture and Moxibustion
Therapeutic
principle: Acupuncture or moxibustion may help reinforce the
heart and spleen, nourish blood and calm the mind by using points
mainly from the heart meridian of hand Shaoyin and spleen meridian
of Foot Taiyin.
Prescription/Formula: Pishu (BL 20), Xinshu (BL 15), Yinbai
(SP 1), Shengmen (HT 7), Sanyinjiao (SP 6).

Anorexia
or bulimia is accompanied by dizziness, restlessness, shortness
of temper, difficulty to fall into sleep, probable congested eyes,
bitter taste in the mouth and hypochondriac pain, thin yellow tongue
coating and wiry rapid pulse.

Therapeutic principle: Herbal medicine can eliminate liver
fire, moisten yin and sedate hyperactive yang.
Prescription/Formula: Modified Longdan Xiegan Tang. Chinese
gentiana (longdancao) 6g, Scutellaria (huangqin) 9g, Capejasmine
fruit (zhizi) 9g, Alisma (zexie) 12g, Licorice (gancao) 6 g, Fresh
Rehmannia (shengdihuang) 9g, Clematis stem (mutong) 9g, Plantain
seed (cheqianzi) 9g, Chinese angelica (danggui) 3g, Bupleurum (chaihu)6g,
Curcuma root (yujin) 6g.

Anorexia
or bulimia is accompanied by palpitation (noticeable or irregular
heart beat), easily frightened patient, restlessness, dream-disturbed
sleep that often wakens the patient, thin white tongue coating,
rapid thready pulse.
To treat by Herbal
medicine
Therapeutic principle: Calm the Heart and mind and sedate
the patient.
Prescription/Formula: Modified Zhusha Anshen Wan. Cinnabar
(zhusha) 15g, Capejasmine fruit (zhizi) 9g, Coptis (huanglian) 9g,
Licorice (gancao) 16g, Fresh Rehmannia (shengdihuang) 8g, Chinese
angelica (danggui), Schisandra fruit (wuweizi) 9g, Polygala root
(yuanzhi)9g.
To treat by Acupuncture and Moxibustion
Therapeutic
principle: Calm the Heart and mind and sedate paient by using
points mainly from Pericardium meridian of Hand Jueyin and Heart
meridian of Hand Shaoyin.
Prescription/Formula: Shenmen

mental activity. There is also an increase in physical energy with
violent behavior and rage which may lead to shouting, harming surrounding
objects and people for no reason at all. Physical symptoms include
a yellow greasy tongue coating and a rapid, thready and slippery
pulse.

stagnant liver qi.
Prescription/Formula: Modified Chaihu Shugan San. Bupleurum
(Chaihu) 30g, Chinese angelica (danggui) 30g, white peony (baishao)
12, Licorice (gancao) 12g, Cyperus tuber (xiangfu) 9g, Citrus peel
(chenpi) 9g, Ligusticum (chuanxiong) 9g, Bitter orange (zhiqiao)9g,
Curcuma root (yujin) 9g.

liver qi by using points mainly from Liver meridian of Foot Jueyin
