1. Overview and Causes

Hemorrhoid. Generally, all small fleshy prominances that are found at the internal and external areas of the anus are called hemorrhoid.

2. Symptoms

1. The pile is caused by the external hemorrhoidal venous plexus and occurs below the dentate line, covered with skin.
2.Internal Hemorrhoid: It is caused by the internal hemorrhoid venous plexus and appears above the dentate line covered with mucosa.
3.Clinical observation shows that the front right, the back right and the middle left parts of the anus are the areas where the hemorrhoid is likely to occur.

3. TCM Effectiveness and Evaluation

Dampness-Heat in the Lower-Jiao

There are a distending pain and prolapse of the anus, hematochezia, local wetness and itching, red tongue with yellow greasy fur, and rapid and slippery pulse.

Therapeutic principle: Regulating the blood, wetting the dryness and expelling pathogenic wind to alleviate pain.

Syndrome (b)
Yin deficiency and Heat in the blood

There is a pain in the anus, and a large amount of blood in stools, accompanied with thirst, desire for drinking, constipation, dark urine, red tongue with thin fur and rapid pulse.

Therapeutic principle: Nourishing yin, removing heat from the blood, and eliminating pathogenic dampness-heat from the blood, and eliminating pathogenic dampness-heat.

Syndrome (c)
Insufficiency of the Spleen

The prolapsed internal hemorrhoid is not able to return back to its original position, accompanied with sallow complexion, palpitation and shortness of breath, weakness and fatigue, pale tongue with thin and white fur, and thready and feeble pulse.

To treat by Herbal medicine
Therapeutic principle: Vigorating and elevating qi, or vigorating the blood and qi, or vigorating qi and replenishing the blood.

Prescription/Formula:
Dangshen 10g, Astragalus Root (Huangqi)10g, White Atractylodes Rhizome (Baizhu)12g, Poria (Fuling)12g, Prepared licorice Root(Zhigancao) 6g

5. Healing by Other Therapies

(a) Qigong and other therapies

Generally speaking, Qigong is good for healing effect of this specific ailment, however individual results may vary. It improves the flow of the qi and the circulation of the blood, so you'll experience more energy, but, you won't see/ feel any immediate effects, as with many exercises and therapies, it takes a few weeks or even months of practice before you'll see any significant improvements.

1. Peach Kernel(Taren) 10g, Bitter Apricot Kernel (Xingren)10g, Ophiopogon (Maidong)12g, rice 60g, put 3 cups water then soak 20m., after boiling 30m.to make rice gruel, eat once a day for 2 weeks.


(c) Life style
1) Avoid mental stress and overstrain.
2) Avoid to eat row, cold, spicy food and deep-fried food.
