1. Overview and Causes

Pancreatitis means inflammation of the pancreas. Acute pancreatitis is a sudden illness in which the patient experiences severe pain in upper abdomen and back. Chronic pancreatitis is in which the symptoms below are recurrent and less severe or may be painless.

4. Common Syndromes and Treatments in TCM

Qi Stagnation and food retention

Distending pain in the epigastrium and hypochondriac region, frequent belching or retching, even constipation, feeling comfortable after breaking wind, thin tongue coating, and taut pulse.

Excessive Heat in the Spleen and Stomach

Distention, fullness and pain which is severe when pressed, constipation, dry mouth, yellow thick greasy of dry tongue coating, and slippery rapid pulse.

5. Healing by Other Therapies

(a) Qigong and other therapies
1. Qigong:

Generally speaking, Qigong is good for healing effect of this specific ailment, however individual results may vary. It improves the flow of the qi and the circulation of the blood, so you'll experience more energy, but, you won't see/ feel any immediate effects, as with many exercises and therapies, it takes a few weeks or even months of practice before you'll see any significant improvements.

(b) Medicated diet
1) Wolfberry Fruit (Gouqizi)20g Hawthorn Fruit (Shanza)20g, Chicken's gizzard-skin (Jineijin)10g, rice 60g, put 4 cups of water then soak them for 20 minutes, decoct for 30 minutes to make gruel. Eat it once a day for 2 months.
2) Hawthorn Fruit (Shanza)20g, Coix Seed (Yiyiren)15g, Chicken's gizzard-skin (Jineijin)10g, rice 60g, put 4 cups water then soak for 20 minutes, cook for 30 minutes to make rice gruel, eat once a day for 2 months.
3) Chinese angelica(Danggui)20g, Wolfberry Fruit (Gouqizi)20g, lean pork100g, with 4 cups of water to decoct 1-2 cups of soup to drink twice a week for 2 months.

(c) Life style
1) Avoid mental stress and overstrain
2) Avoid eating special food and deep-fried food. Be on a diet with less fat.
3) Pay attention to keep taking regular meals on time, avoid excessive food and /or drink at one meal.
4) Stop drinking wine and beer.
